■■ Glucose-elevating agents are used to increase glucose when levels become dangerously low. Imbalance in glucose levels while taking insulin or oral agents is a common cause of hypoglycaemia. ■■ Nurses and midwives play a major role in the healthcare team with regard to management of care and education for people with diabetes.
