GI: abdominal pain, diarrhoea, enlarged salivary glands, nausea, vomiting. GU: renalfailure , contrastmedium–induced nephrotoxicity . Haematological: elevated serum amylase (in body cavities). Musculoskeletal: arthralgia, arthritis. Psychiatric: confusion. Respiratory: bronchospasm , cough, dys­ pnoea, pulmonary oedema. Skin: erythema, pruritus, rash, urticaria. Other: anaphylactic reaction , fever, hyper­ sensitivityreactions, iodism,malaise,pyrexia. Interactions Drug-drug. Metformin/biguanides: Potent­ ial transient impairment of renal function with possible lactic acidosis. Monitor closely. Interleukin-2: Increased risk of delayed reactions. Monitor closely. Beta blockers: Atypical anaphylaxis. Monitor closely. Contraindications Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the preparation or a history of serious hypersensitivity to iohexol; and in those with thyrotoxicosis, anuria or decompensated cardiac insufficiency. Also contraindicated in carotid angiography, during the progressive period of stroke, in coronary arteriography in the first 4 weeks after MI and in the presence of infection or open injury in or near the region to be examined. care considerations • Closelymonitor individualfordevelopment of anaphylactic reaction. Ensure emergency management equipment is available and in correct working order. • Monitor vital signs and renal function closely following procedure.

• Observe for signs of lactic acidosis. • Ensure safety if the person is light-headed. • Thyroid function testsmay be reduced for up to several weeks. • False positive result for protein in the urine maybereturnedonmultistixmeasurements of specific gravity.
