Commissurotomy of Mitral Valve

In commissurotomy, the thickened valve leaflets are surgically separated.

Percutaneous Balloon Valvuloplasty During valvuloplasty, a surgeon inserts a small balloon catheter through the skin at the femoral vein and advances it until it reaches the affected valve. The balloon is then inflated, forcing the valve opening to widen.
