The tumor microenvironment (TME) of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. The TME comprises complex interactions between both cellular and soluble components. Cellular cross-talk between immune cells, cancer-associated fibroblasts, and cancer cells can dictate disease progression and therapeutic response. These cellular components additionally secrete soluble factors, like chemokines and cytokines, that further influence the inflammatory TME of GI cancers.
